Board Service Interest Form

Thank you for your interest in serving on the Alchemist Board of Directors. You can jump ahead to the interest form, but we recommend you read through this information to familiarize yourself with board service at Alchemist CDC.

The Organization
Alchemist Community Development Corporation (CDC) is a nonprofit whose mission is to connect communities to land, food and opportunity. Community development corporations are historically known for responding to their community’s greatest needs. Alchemist CDC focuses on enhancing quality of life by improving access to healthy foods, implementing land-based projects, and fostering economic justice.

Time Demands and Expectations (approximate):

  • Alchemist CDC meetings and events currently take place on-site as well as virtually. Board members are expected to be present in person and participate online, as needed.
  • Attend and actively participate in at least 75% of board meetings and committee meetings. Board meetings are currently bi-monthly on the 4th Tuesday of the month for approximately two hours (2024 calendar available upon request).
  • Actively participate in one Board committee including attending meetings and related work (1-3 hours per month as determined by the committee)
  • Attend and actively participate in an annual planning retreat (1 weekend day)
  • Attend at least 2-3 special events per year such as fundraisers, AMA graduations, and volunteer days.
  • Respond to emails and board correspondence, 2-4 times per month.
  • Board members are asked to commit to a 3-year term.

Financial and Resource Development Expectations:

  • Make an annual “Give or Get” financial commitment to the organization
  • Participate in fundraising efforts including acquiring raffle items, hosting a Big Day of Giving fundraiser, and meeting with potential donors (approx. 5 -10 hours annually)
  • Secure sponsors or make introductions with potential funders

Desired Skills:
Accounting, Fundraising, Strategic Planning, Community Development, Landscape Architecture, Policy, Human Resources, and Employment Law, or other skills that you think could contribute to the strength of our board.
