Bilingual (Spanish) Alchemist Kitchen Program Coordinator
Full-Time (Sacramento, CA)

 Expected Hourly Commitment: Full-Time, 40 hours/week, non-exempt

Compensation: $24.60/hour, non-negotiable

Schedule: Some Tuesday or Wednesday evenings (March-May and September-November). Hours for
other activities are flexible, but may be dependent on the schedules of AKIP participants. Occasional
weekend days are required for special events (i.e. AMA graduation ceremony).

Location: Hybrid, but must reside in or near Sacramento, CA. Hours will be divided as needed between
remote work; the Alchemist Kitchen location at 882 El Camino, Sacramento, CA 95818; and occasional
other local venues as needed. Expected breakdown will be about 60% remote and 40% on-site.

About the Role:
The Bilingual Alchemist Kitchen Program Coordinator plays a key role in helping under-resourced entrepreneurs from the Sacramento region to start and grow successful food businesses in the Alchemist Kitchen program. Alchemist Kitchen is a food business incubator which works with under-resourced entrepreneurs from the Sacramento region to start and grow successful food businesses. This position will also help expand the offerings of the Alchemist Kitchen program to Spanish speakers.

Job Responsibilities:

The Bilingual Alchemist Kitchen Program Coordinator’s primary role will be as an Alchemist Kitchen Incubator Program (AKIP) advisor with entrepreneurs in the program. AKIP provides customized one-on-one technical assistance and coaching. Incubated businesses work closely with Alchemist staff to develop their business skills, test their products, build assets, and create individualized benchmarks to ensure accountability and a progression plan toward graduation within 5 years. This role will be the primary coach for about 15 entrepreneurs. This role will also work with Spanish speaking entrepreneurs and create or translate documents and materials into Spanish so AKIP can better serve Spanish-speaking program participants. AKIP advising will happen remotely via Zoom or at the physical Alchemist Kitchen (882 El Camino, Sacramento, CA 95818). The hours of these activities are flexible but may be dependent on the schedules and availability of AKIP participants. The Alchemist Kitchen Program Coordinator will also support the AMA Program Coordinator to facilitate the Alchemist Microenterprise Academy (AMA) class. AMA is a 12-week training course covering the fundamentals of starting a food business and assisting participants in the development of a business plan. While to-date AMA has only been offered in English, Alchemist CDC is seeking to expand the AMA classes to serve Spanish speakers. This position will evaluate the current AMA program and make the ultimate determination whether to incorporate predominately-Spanish speakers into the current form of AMA, with bilingual templates and assistance offered, or whether to create an entirely Spanish version of the program. They will also assist in the development of workshops and program related materials. The Program Coordinator will act as a community liaison to build relationships through networking and positive interactions with the public that will help increase awareness of the program and opportunities for AKIP participants. They will also work to help create opportunities for community building within the programs.
The Alchemist Kitchen Program Coordinator will report to the Alchemist Kitchen Program Manager.

AKIP Responsibilities (65%)

  • Learn AKIP program outline and requirements
  • Coach/advise about 15 entrepreneurs in the Alchemist Kitchen Incubator Program, including Spanish speakers
  • Review benchmarks with AKIP participants and connect to resources
  • Research and seek out solutions to entrepreneurs’ business challenges
  • Attend meetings, review contracts and correspondence, help develop working systems and facilitate development plans for program participants
  • Translate program materials into Spanish
  • Monitor participants for consistent business movement towards their graduation goals
  • Work with Alchemist Kitchen team to adjust program as needed to increase effectiveness
  • Help with promotion of the program through developing and scheduling social media posts and outreach materials
  • Develop program resources and curriculum in English and Spanish
  • Attend online and in person seminars related to the food industry and entrepreneurship ecosystems with an eye towards program development and ongoing education in the relevant fields
  • Attend community and industry events as a representative of the Alchemist Kitchen program for promotion of the program
  • Attend AKIP community events such as grand openings, markets, etc.
  • Work with Program Manager to adjust program as needed to increase effectiveness

AMA Responsibilities (35%)

  • Evaluate AMA program and develop action plan for the program to serve Spanish speaking entrepreneurs
  • Translate course material into Spanish
  • Review applications for admittance into course
  • Review and evaluate participant work
  • Present course material as needed
  • Monitor classes, take attendance, facilitate class discussions as necessary
  • Work with course participants individually as needed
  • Review and evaluate business plans, evaluate course performance for graduation requirements
  • Work with Alchemist Kitchen team to adjust program as needed to increase effectiveness

Requirements:

  • Spanish & English fluency (written and spoken)
  • Background in entrepreneurship (food industry specifically a plus) and/or teaching/mentorship experience
  • Advanced computer skills (position will work with Dropbox, MS Office, Zoom, Google Docs/Sheets/Classroom, Canva)
  • Detail oriented and highly organized
  • Ability to problem solve and independently find solutions
  • Reliable and able to work independently
  • Reliable verifiable transportation
  • ServSafe Manager’s Level certified preferred; we will provide testing for certification otherwise
