LOCAL NONPROFIT ASKS COMMUNITY FOR HELP AFTER THEFT

Alchemist CDC, the organization behind the Florin Certified Farmers’ Market, is reeling from a devastating blow as thieves recently absconded with a shipping container storing essential supplies for the market’s weekly operations.

At 5:04am on Monday, April 22, 2024, unknown individuals targeted the Florin Certified Farmers Market’s storage container located at the Florin Light Rail Station at Florin Road and Indian Lane in South Sacramento. In addition to the shipping container, thieves took equipment and supplies crucial to the market’s weekly operation totaling a loss of over $5,000.00.

“We are deeply disappointed and disheartened by this senseless act of theft,” said Sam Greenlee, Executive Director at Alchemist CDC. “The Florin Farmers Market plays a vital role in supporting our local economy and providing access to fresh, nutritious food for residents in this community. The shipping container and its contents were an investment in the community. The theft was not a crime resulting from desperation but a well-practiced act accomplished with expensive equipment. It is disheartening that the perpetrator would jeopardize food access for thousands of Sacramentans for their own personal enrichment.”

Alchemist CDC is working closely with local law enforcement authorities to investigate the theft and is appealing to the public for any information that may lead to the recovery of the stolen goods and apprehension of the perpetrators.

Despite this setback, Alchemist CDC remains committed to its mission of fostering community development and supporting local agriculture. The Florin Certified Farmers Market was open for its regularly scheduled hours this week, Thursday, April 25th from 8:00am-12:00pm at 3001 Florin Road.

Alchemist CDC is a 501(c)3 mission-driven organization that connects Sacramento area communities to land, food, and opportunity toward a vision in which all neighborhoods are vibrant, equitable, healthy, and diverse.
