About the Role:
About Us:
Alchemist CDC is a mission-driven organization that connects Sacramento area communities to land, food, and opportunity – toward a vision in which all neighborhoods are vibrant, equitable, healthy, and diverse. We are best known for enhancing the quality of life in under-resourced communities by improving access to nutritious foods, implementing community-supported public green spaces, and fostering economic self-sufficiency through business entrepreneurship. With a commitment to community development centered on the local food system, we find that each of our programs are not only inextricably linked to one another but also to many issues, policies, and partner organizations throughout the region and across the state.Learn more about our organization and programs at: www.alchemistcdc.org
Alchemist’s food access programs include the CalFresh at the Farmers’ Markets, Neighborhood Empowerment, Community Food Connections, and Farmers’ Market programs.
Farmers’ Markets are a great asset to communities, and can lead to improved health for area residents. By making it easier for low-income neighbors to purchase food at farmers’ markets, these community assets become more equitable and accessible to all individuals. Alchemist operates three (3) certified farmers’ markets in identified food deserts and/or underserved communities: two in the City of Sacramento (Florin Certified Farmers’ Market and Meadowview Certified Farmers’ Market) and one in Rancho Cordova (Rancho Cordova Certified Farmers’ Market).
Alchemist’s CalFresh at Farmers’ Markets program staffs and facilitates CalFresh/EBT/Market Match booths at these three (3) markets, as well as at six (6) others throughout Sacramento County. The CalFresh at Farmers’ Markets Program is our longest operating program, having begun in 2011. The objective of the program is to make locally- grown and -produced foods accessible and affordable to food-insecure households. In addition to delivering this program to a total of nine (9) farmers’ markets in the region, we also partner with other farmers’ market operators in the region to provide technical assistance, promotional and administrative support for food benefit access and nutrition incentive programs at their markets as well.
